You may have seen a recent change to the DeepCrawl branding as we’ve updated all of our logos, social headers, imagery, emails, etc. from green to red. The reason is that we’ve decided to take a stand against women’s heart disease and have chosen to ‘Go Red this February’ in support of Women’s Heart Health Month.
Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, however, many women are unaware of the warning signs and symptoms. This is primarily due to the fact that heart disease symptoms in women vary quite drastically to those more common in men.
“In late 2001, in my early 30s, I was driving to work when I felt a rush of blood to my head and temporarily lost my vision. I was on a country road and was lucky that day, but it took me almost a decade to fully diagnose that I had a heart defect (an atrial fibrillation that can shoot my heart rate up to 180+ for no reason at all).
I had grown up with the class heart attack signs, but I didn’t realize just how much more complex heart disease can be. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I learned that even those classic heart attack symptoms were based almost completely on observations of male patients and dangerously misinform women, for whom heart disease is the leading cause of death. We can’t rely on luck. To save lives, education is essential.”
Dr Pete Myers, Marketing Scientist at Moz
Sadly, our understanding of heart disease and heart attacks is based on studies of male patients, and the different symptoms that appear in women haven’t been given enough attention.

“Last year, in June, while walking my dog, I was struck by a massive heart attack. Lucky for me, I researched large medical problems a couple of years ago, and pretty early on, based on the symptoms, I was able to self diagnose. Not sure if I was having a heart attack at only 43 years old, I checked in at the hospital. Immediately after I was hooked up to a monitor, people started rushing in to prepare me for the operation room. I’ve been fortunate, as time is everything in the situation of a heart attack.
What can you do? First things first; stop smoking if you do. Start exercising; since the heart is a muscle, you can train it. Get yourself checked at a doctors office; you never know what kind of problems you might have. And last, educate yourself on the symptoms. The symptoms of a heart attack are different for men and women, where with the latter, these symptoms are harder to diagnose.”

If the lives of half a million women are claimed by cardiovascular disease each year in the US alone, imagine what that number looks like when multiplied on a global scale at 3.78 billion women worldwide.
It’s fairly seismic – that’s potentially the work colleague sitting next to you right now, that’s one of the friends you’re seeing for dinner Friday night, that’s many of the numerous women you interact with every single day.
To help bring light to this issue and educate women on the subject, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women, a social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. So for the mothers, the daughters, the sisters, the friends and the colleagues who impact our daily lives, we chose to stand together with Go Red for Women this February. Our aim was and will continue to be, to help educate and bring awareness about the severity of cardiovascular disease in women in an effort to help save the lives of those closest to our hearts.
To help support this initiative, we decided to auction off our Customer Advisory Board members, allowing business owners to bid on a consultation session with world-class SEO experts Barry Adams, Bastian Grimm, Lukasz Zelezny, Dawn Anderson, Nick Eubanks, Nick Wilsdon, Glenn Gabe and Ilyas Teker. When we first conceptualized this idea, we weren’t quite sure how it would be received. However, we were completely taken back by a resounding “YES!”
We’re auctioning off our CABs (@ilyasteker @badams @nick_eubanks @dawnieando @nickwilsdon @glenngabe @badams @basgr) to raise money for @American_Heart ❤️. “Often in business, we work for clients that may not help make the world a better place. From a purely selfish perspective, contributing to campaigns like these helps me pay off whatever karmic debt I’m accumulating, and I hope I can be part of similar positive actions in the future.”
Barry Adams
Again, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you;
- To everyone who got involved and bid on the auction to help us raise an amazing amount of money for a great cause.
- To everyone who helped promote and support the campaign, we truly appreciate it.
- To Go Red for Women & the American Heart Association for all of your hard work to tackle this awful disease.
- But most of all, thank you to our Customer Advisory Board members. Without you, we couldn’t have pulled this off and raised this money for charity.
“I am very proud that together with DeepCrawl we, the Customer Advisory Board, could help raise this money. That tells a lot about how great and strong our industry is. I couldn’t be more happy.”
Lukasz Zelezny
