Notes from the Google Webmaster Hangouts on the 1st of November, 2016.
Use a Nofollow on Links to Noindex Pages
You can add a nofollow on links to noindex pages to help prevent them from being crawled as often. If they cause a problem being crawled, they can be disallowed.
302 Redirects Won’t be Cached in the Browser
A 302 redirect won’t be cached in the user’s browser.
A View All Paginated Page Should Make Sense for Users
If you have a view all page as an alternative to a set of paginated pages, it should make sense for users, not Google.
Links on Canonicalised Paginated Pages Won’t be Found
Any unique content and links found on paginated pages which have been canonicalised to the first page won’t be found. If you have a view all page which only includes limited content from the full set, then the missing content won’t be seen either.
Don’t Repeat Markup for Duplicated Reviews
If you repeat the same reviews in multiple places, only include the review markup in a single place.
Fetch as Googlebot Doesn’t Update the Index
Using Fetch as Googlebot doesn’t update the Google index. You have to use the submit to Index function to get Googlebot to recrawl the page and update the index.
Google Analyses the Amount of Advertising Above the Fold
Google watches out to see if ads cover a significant part of the page above the fold, and may not rank the page as well.
